MissionAssist began life as Wycliffe Associates (UK), which was founded as a charitable trust in 1989 with the aim of supporting Christian mission overseas through simple services provided by Christians in the UK working from their own homes. In the beginning, the charity principally served Wycliffe Bible Translators, but over the years its services have expanded to help many other missions too. There are now nearly seven hundred volunteers who work from home. They use all kinds of abilities and skills to help those working abroad to show God's love for people everywhere. Recently, the charity's formal status changed to that of a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).
